Around the time Ben was 6 months old,
we starting noticing that our son was not progressing like other kids his age.
By the time he was 1, we knew something was definitely wrong. He wasn't
crawling, he wasn't babbling or saying any words, his eyes looked crossed, and
just tons of other things were "off." Doug's parents came to visit

My son David Hyrum was born on 11/22/2015 at 12:39am. He

My due date was 11/25/2015 according to the ultrasound tech’s

I announced on Facebook quite a while ago, that my son, Ben, is developmentally delayed. Not just in one area, but all across the board.
While other moms seem to
be counting all the ways their kids are surpassing the norm, I catch myself
often tallying up the things my son doesn’t do. And there’s quite a laundry
list, let me tell you.

I'm 25 now, so start taking me seriously!!! :) Also, now I can rent a car all by myself! :) Only 10 more years and I can run for president of the Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-3821987356288576492014-02-20T00:21:00.002-07:002014-03-30T19:36:58.481-06:00Family UpdatesWe have now been in SLC for the past 1 1/2 months. Seems like a lot longer... but the calendar doesn't lie. We're still newbies.
I am seriously loving it here. It's warm (relatively, of course), the people are super friendly (like- sincerely friendly), I have an awesome, good-paying job in an industry I love (finance & customer service) and it's within walking distance from my Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-51463815921379703252014-01-30T21:45:00.000-07:002014-01-30T21:49:23.081-07:007 months!
Ben is 7 months old! (Well technically, he's 7 1/2 now...) This 7th month has been an eventful one for Ben.
He moved away from the only home he's ever known.
He had his pacifier taken away (again!)
He now has only 1 bottle a day - the rest is oatmeal and other baby food (and man, does he pack it away!)
He reaches up when he sees mommy or daddy
He can sit up and grab his toes (but onlyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-81944179773410768002014-01-30T21:20:00.003-07:002014-01-30T22:39:20.952-07:00Christmas & Moving
So, this post is way late! But I figured you'd all want to see Ben's 1st Christmas! :) We stayed home in Idaho for Christmas. So it was just the 3 of us + Owen (the dog). Right after we opened presents, I packed up the tree because we moved a couple days later! Ben was very tired Christmas morning, because I had taken his pacifier away the night before. So he was a little out of it. Ben is 6 months old!!! Half a year!!!
Height: 26.5"
Weight: 17lbs 1.5oz
Ben is now eating solid food. We started him on oatmeal cereal and he absolutely LOVES it. He is such a good eater. He gets it all in his mouth and swallows it down without making too much of a mess. As soon as he sees me scoop some more oatmeal in the spoon, he opens his mouth in preparation. It is adorable! So, I totally failed at getting pictures of Ben at 5 months! But what kind of mother would I be if I just gave up!? So, here's a filler picture for you - and I will try to do better with the following months. :)
At 5 months old, Ben is sitting up with support. He still likes to slouch over if you turn your back, but for the most part he sits pretty well in his bumbo or on your lap.&Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-71805468463441630132013-11-25T00:52:00.000-07:002013-11-25T00:54:35.414-07:00Declaring AccomplishmentsOn Saturday, I went to a Relief Society activity. For those of you who don't know, Relief Society is an organization within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for women 18 and older. This activity was one where we learned how to do simple Christmas-themed crafts.
During the activity I chatted with several women who were sitting with me at the table. The common topic of every Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-8693679661666701142013-10-23T19:57:00.003-06:002013-10-23T21:52:49.253-06:004 months
Ben has hit the 4 month mark! At his 4 month old appointment he weighed 16.3 lbs and was 25 1/4 inches long. He's still a little above average, but the gap is closer than it was last month. This month he didn't put on the pounds, but he did shoot up in height. So now he's not such a chunk.
Don't get me wrong, he's still a fatty - just less so! :)
News since last month:

My sister and Grandma and Doug's parents came down to visit for the occasion. My little boy is officially 2 months old! He had his two-month appointment today.
He weighs 12 lbs, 14.5 oz
and measures 23 inches long.
The doctor kept saying "There is nothing petite about this kid"
And the doctor is the 2nd person to comment that he has a "man-cry" (I'm assuming that means his cry is not as high-pitched as other boy babies - which is true.)

My wonderful husband knows how to use a camera pretty well (even though he's not comfortable with portraits) and so we decided to "trade" family pictures. Here are some of our favorite ones from our little photo shoot.

Ben's birth story:
I had a doctor's appointment on Thursday before Ben was born. I was dilated to about 2cm, but wasn't feeling any contractions. I was exactly 40 weeks at my appointment. I wasn't really sick of being pregnant, but I did have my mom coming into town and wanted her to be Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-16127599470293875502013-06-02T23:31:00.002-06:002013-06-02T23:31:36.548-06:00He's ALMOST here! So just as an update: I am 38 weeks and 3 days as of right now. I am barely dilated (not even 1 cm). Right now, I'm betting that little Ben will be staying inside until I'm 41 weeks. He seems pretty comfy in there. I also figure, if I plan for the least appealing outcome, I will then be pleasantly surprised if he shows up before then. :)
I have put both of these pictures on Facebook, so Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-67547243256823907552013-02-25T23:41:00.001-07:002013-02-25T23:41:12.342-07:00It's a boy!Sorry, this news is so late on my blog... but we found out about a month ago that we're having a little boy!! We are both very excited and very scared! (Not just about having a boy, but a baby in general.) And I don't know what having a girl inside your uterus is like, but I know that this boy is super active! He is always moving.
I've been having baby dreams the past several weeks. My first Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-35989708995443559762012-12-01T21:58:00.002-07:002012-12-01T23:42:16.575-07:00We're pregnant!
So, if you read my last post, you know Doug and I had been trying for a while to get pregnant. We actually went to see a fertility specialist about it in September. We were all set and ready to get some tests run, so we could figure out where to go from there- all we had to do was wait for my cycle to start.
Well... we're still waiting! haha. We never actually had to go through withUnknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-41492591750068510482012-05-22T16:47:00.001-06:002012-05-22T17:03:59.150-06:00To dispel the rumors...and maybe help others a little.
No. We’re not waiting till we graduate.
No. We’re not waiting until we can “afford” one. (Is that
even possible?)
Yes, I already know “it’ll happen when it happens”
No I’m not stressed.
No I’m not on drugs. Haha (no one has actually asked me that
one… I just figured while I’m at it, I’d nip that one too.)
Yes, Doug and I have been trying to conceive for over a
year.

Our teacher started out the lesson by having us close our eyes and picture our spouse or someone who we loved the most right at that moment. I, of course, pictured Doug and how completely wonderful he is. :)
Then she had us think of a person who we find it difficult to love; someone who bugs us or who is hard to get Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-32250818365416147152012-01-14T20:27:00.001-07:002012-01-14T20:27:18.203-07:00New JobI'm always so embarrassed by what a terrible blogger I am. I'm hoping that means my life is pretty interesting; so I don't need to be on the computer constantly. (But it probably means I'm on Hulu instead of blogger)
Anywho, I have a little tiny bit of news:
I GOT A NEW JOB. I've been working in the call center as an operator for the past year, but now I am a full-time Teller. I haven't Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-37014793579697838632011-10-26T22:42:00.001-06:002012-05-22T19:43:11.026-06:00Moving on...I am so excited right now, because I have officially paid off my student loan (that I took out not too long ago). So what this means is that 1)I've now paid off TWO student loans in the past year and 2)Doug and I will graduate college with absolutely NO student loans!! Whoo hoo!
Another piece of news which may sadden and disappoint some while gladdening and exciting others is that I've decided IUnknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4116310534895046855.post-8436014682789417092011-09-18T11:06:00.005-06:002011-09-18T11:07:39.493-06:00SmileI was going through some old papers of mine and I came across this poem I've saved for years. It's one of my favorites. Maybe some of you will also appreciate it.

1. I love Snooki.
2. I keep a scrub brush in the shower so I can clean while I'm standing there.
3. I get more excited about organizing things than I do about anything else.
4. Doug and I have watched X-Men: First Class three times in the past 4 days.
5. I eat Spaghettios straight out of the can.
